Legacy Way

Legacy Way is a major road tunnel project located in Brisbane, some 4.6 kilometres long, which will connect the Western Freeway at Toowong with the Inner City Bypass at Kelvin Grove. It is designed to reduce congestion and increase connectivity on Brisbane’s road network.

Legacy Way comprises twin, two-lane tunnels that will allow motorists to travel in either direction (east or west) in just four minutes. Construction commenced in April 2011 and is on track to be completed in 2015, ahead of schedule.

Legacy Way will include:

  • a dual carriageway with a speed limit of 80 kilometres per hour
  • a ventilation system to manage air quality
  • safety systems, including emergency exits, fire protection and monitoring systems
  • a fully electronic user-pays tolling system

When Cutting Force successfully tendered and won the concrete cutting and drilling element of the Legacy Way Project in May 2013, Cutting Force was  responsible for over 2.5 kilometres of wall sawing, along with approximately 2,000 core holes being drilled. 24-hour rolling shifts were implemented to maintain the schedule required.
